2024 AGM & FALL EDUCATION REGISTRATION OCTOBER 5th, 2024
October 5th, 2024 Moose Jaw, SK Location: Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, 55 Diefenbaker Drive Proposed Program: 0830 Registration - Coffee and Pastries 0900 Opening Remarks - Welcome 0915-1015 Dr. Caroline Brookfield - Don’t move my pen! Ambiguity and Creativity as tools to combat stress in the OR There is no room for ambiguity in the OR, where high stakes require confident, assertive action with precision. But, whether we like it or not, uncertainty and ambiguity is a fact of life that we can’t escape. From “the scissors are supposed to be in THIS drawer” to last minute schedule changes, we are faced with change every day. Our increasing intolerance to ambiguity is affecting our mental health, and is a proven factor in burnout, mental well being and stress. This interactive session explores the concept of ambiguity intolerance, its impact on mental well-being, and strategies like creativity to increase your resilience in the face of the unknown. Creativity (no arts and crafts required) is highly correlated to ambiguity tolerance. Any creative practice (making a meal, building a pivot table, rearranging the garbage's for efficiency), is a boot camp for learning to face uncertainty with more confidence. Led by Dr. Caroline Brookfield, veterinarian and author, you will gain tools to understand your reactions to ambiguity, how to pause in the discomfort, and use creativity to find a new way forward in the OR and beyond. 1015-1115 Speaker 1: Dr Tim Bolton, Anesthesiologist - Acute Pain Management for Patients on Opiods and Opiod Agonist therapy 1130-1230 AGM - PANGS & SORNG/Nutrition Break 1230-1400 Lunch - Take this opportunity to check out one of the local cafes or restaurants such as Deja Vu Cafe, Yvette Moore Gallery Cafe, or Evolve 1400-1500 Speaker 2: Dr. Huang, Urologist 1500-1530 Awards/Closing Remarks Social Event to follow at Brewhouse Hotel rooms blocked off for October 4 & 5.
